Terms of service

The short version: Sin the Bottle is a digital party game for consenting adults. You are responsible for your own actions and interactions during gameplay. The app facilitates consent-based activity suggestions - it does not control what happens at your party.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Sin the Bottle. By creating or joining a game, you confirm that you are 18 or older. We do not perform age verification beyond self-declaration.

What the app does

Sin the Bottle is a digital spin-the-bottle game that suggests activities between players who have both privately indicated willingness. The app:

  • Presents activity suggestions based on mutual consent preferences
  • Ensures the bottle only lands on pairs with reciprocal consent
  • Keeps individual consent preferences private from other players

The app suggests activities. It does not require, compel, or enforce any physical action. All participants retain full autonomy over their own behaviour at all times, regardless of what the app displays.

Your responsibilities

  • Consent is ongoing. A preference set in the app is not a binding commitment. You can change your mind at any time, for any reason, regardless of what you previously indicated in the app.
  • Respect others. Treat all participants with respect. The app’s suggestion of an activity does not override another person’s verbal or physical refusal.
  • Safe environment. If you are hosting, you are responsible for maintaining a safe environment for all participants. The app assists with consent management but does not replace your duty of care as a host.
  • Alcohol and substances. Be mindful that intoxication affects the ability to give meaningful consent. The app’s renegotiation prompts are a reminder, not a substitute for good judgement.
  • No photography or recording. Photography, video, and audio recording are not permitted at Sin the Bottle events. This includes phone cameras, smart glasses, and any other recording device. Breach may result in removal and a permanent ban.
  • Code of conduct. All attendees are expected to follow the Sin the Bottle code of conduct. Breach may result in removal and a permanent ban from future events.

Assumption of risk and release of claims

Participation in a Sin the Bottle event is voluntary and carries inherent physical, emotional, and social risk, including the risk of injury, illness, or distress. By using the app at an event, you acknowledge and accept these risks. To the fullest extent permitted by law you release Sin the Bottle, the event host and co-hosts, the venue, and other attendees from claims arising out of or in connection with the event, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded. Nothing in this clause limits rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded, restricted, or modified.

Reporting concerns

If you have a safety or conduct concern during or after an event, email safety@sinthebottle.com. We aim to acknowledge every report within 72 hours. In an emergency, contact local emergency services first (000 in Australia).

Prohibited use

Sin the Bottle is designed for consensual social play between adults who are all willing participants. You may not use the app to:

  • Pressure, coerce, or manipulate someone into activities they have not freely chosen
  • Target or isolate a specific person against their wishes
  • Facilitate contact with minors in any context
  • Circumvent the consent system (for example, by coercing someone to set consent flags under pressure)

The consent preferences in the app are a tool for private boundary-setting, not a contract. A preference set in the app never overrides a person’s right to refuse in the moment.

Limitation of liability

Sin the Bottle is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • We are not liable for any actions taken by participants during or after gameplay
  • We are not liable for any physical, emotional, or psychological outcomes arising from use of the app
  • We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from reliance on the app’s consent management features
  • We make no guarantee that the consent system is infallible - it is a tool to assist, not a guarantee of safety

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sin the Bottle and its operators from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the app or your conduct during gameplay.

Content

The app includes pre-defined activity suggestions that range from mild to explicit. Hosts can also create custom activities. We are not responsible for custom content created by users. If you find any pre-defined content objectionable, you can remove it from your game’s activity list.

Account and data

Guest players do not need an account. Hosts require a Lotl Auth account. All game data is automatically deleted when the game expires. See our privacy policy for full details on data handling.

Termination

We reserve the right to terminate access to the service at any time, for any reason, without notice.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia.

Changes

We may update these terms at any time. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
